Revelation that the NSSF is holding Shs28b of contributors’ savings in a suspense account is disturbing. And reports that NSSF has for over a year failed to locate the owners of at least Shs20b of the Shs28b is equally absurd.
If NSSF’s explanation that the major reason why there is unallocated money is due to many employees not taking time to register let alone update their records, thereby making it difficult for the employers and NSSF to post money to their accounts is true, then it is even more shaming.
Could it be that employers are deliberately failing to educate employees about NSSF savings with intent to cheat them? Who is supposed to sensitise workers about social security?
