They've struck up a secret friendship over the past few weeks, and have been growing increasingly close after forging a surprise bond.

But EastEnders' Ian Beale and Denise Fox will finally succumb to their mutual attraction when they share a passionate kiss in scenes from the BBC One soap which will air later this week.

Although the pair - played by Adam Woodyatt and Diane Fox - have been somewhat unlucky-in-love in recent years, they will become even closer when they have a heartfelt conversation in the bed and breakfast about the traumatic times they've been through over the past few months.

Baring his soul, Ian will break down in tears as he opens up to Denise about the time he spent living on the streets.

After the shop worker takes the dowdy dad into her arms, the couple can't resist their inner feelings any longer, and become involved in a passionate clinch as they lock lips for the first time.

However, their moment of romance doesn't last long when they are interrupted by Patrick's cheers from the next room as he watches the horse-racing on the television.

But it would appear their relationship will go to the next level, with Denise telling Ian to come back later - before sneaking him out of the bed and breakfast the next morning.

And the romance won't be staying a secret for too long, with Denise's sister Kim - played by Tameka Empson - later becoming suspicious when she finds a man's belt in her sibling's room, and immediately embarks on a mission to discover who Denise's mystery man is.

Actress Diane Fox recently admitted she was shocked when EastEnders producers told her who her alter-ego's next love interest would be.

She told Inside Soap magazine: 'I didn’t see this coming at all!

'When the bosses first told me, I think there must have been some tumbleweed and a few crickets chirping – my reaction was like, "Eh?"

'But then I was overjoyed because Adam Woodyatt is one of the best actors in the show. He knows his character inside out, yet he’s always willing to try something new.'
